Now Hiring: Vehicle Condition Inspector — 1099 Independent Contractor
Contract type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Schedule: Recurring weekly route at the same dealership location(s)
Pay: Flat rate per dealership and one (1) vehicle inspected. Bonus for additional vehicles inspected at each dealership.
- What you'll do:
- Visit assigned dealership lots each week to perform full exterior and interior inspections of used vehicles following standardized protocol
- Capture required photos of vehicle exterior, interior, engine bay, undercarriage, tires, and any damage — uploaded via mobile app in the field
- Use a tread depth calibrator, paint/color calibration tool, and OBD-II scanner to measure and document vehicle condition
- Start each vehicle and note irregularities — unusual noises, warning lights, fluid leaks, rough idles
- Report all findings, measurements, and photos directly into the mobile inspection app while on-site
- Represent HS Brands and the client professionally, coordinating with dealership staff to access vehicles
- Maintain and safeguard assigned inspection equipment between visits
- What you'll need:
- Ability to identify common vehicle condition issues: mismatched paint, panel gaps, frame damage, fluid leaks, worn suspension, tire wear patterns, and interior wear inconsistent with stated mileage
- Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet app as a primary work tool, including photo capture and structured data entry
- Able to learn and consistently follow a standardized inspection checklist without skipping steps
- Writes clear, factual condition notes — accuracy in reporting is not negotiable
- Ability to kneel, crouch, and inspect tires, undercarriage, and lower panels; comfortable working outdoors in varying weather
- Dependable, on-time attendance for a recurring weekly schedule at the same location(s)
- Preferred background (not required):
- Insurance auto damage appraiser or claims adjuster experience (independent or staff)
- Experience inspecting vehicles for Manheim, Copart, IAA, OPENLANE, or similar wholesale/auction platforms
- Automotive dealership service advisor, used car manager, or detailer (current or retired)
- Automotive technician or mechanic (current or retired)
- Work structure:
- Schedule: Recurring weekly cadence per assigned dealership route (day/time confirmed by dealerships)
- Location: On-site at assigned dealership lot(s); routes may cover more than one location
- Classification: Independent contractor (1099)
- Compensation: Flat rate per dealership and one inspection + bonus potential for additional vehicles inspected
- Reporting: Submissions will be reviewed and validated — inspector may be asked to correct or clarify details
